Budapest World Water Summit

Following up on the conclusions of the UN Rio+20 conference in June 2012, János Áder, the President of Hungary , announced the intention to organise a major international water event (Budapest Worl Water Summit) in October 2013. The principal objective of the 2013 Budapest Water Summit taking place 9-11 October 2013, is to take stock of the various developments inside and outside the UN system, in preparing water-related goals for the post Rio+20 agenda.

Based on the outcomes of various UN programmes as well as the World Water Forum series of the World Water Council, it also aims to present practical, accessible , affordable solutions to the main challenges identified. The Summit is expected to provide defining contributions to the elaboration of one or more SMART (specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely) Sustainable Developement Goals on water and sanitation that correspond and respond to multidimensional challenges. The Summit will issue an Adoption of the Budapest Recommendation on Water and Sanitation.
